What’s a Dig in??
Each participant will share a stuck/challenging spot you have with couples with Sarah & Angela before the dig in (bonus if you have video to share!). We'll pull together 2-3 challenges for the group to focus on when we come together. Based on this stuck/challenging spot we'll spend time "digging in" to each partner's position and the therapist's position (self of therapist work).
Our aim is to stretch ourselves, brainstorm, role play, test interventions, and try out new words. Practice and process. Practice and process. Our aim is to keep the "dig in" dynamic, energetic, and thought provoking!
Trailblazing New EFT Ground:
Beyond Context & Cultural Humility
with Paul Guillory, PhD., EFT Trainer
A new era of integrating cultural matters into psychotherapy has been emerging adjacent to, but largely outside of major models of therapy. This cultural focus has suggested interventions that break the negative legacies of race and promote cultural thriving. Psychotherapy, however, has persistently continued to treat race as a demographic category. Despite this resistance, People of Color continue to present with many shades of cultural customs and practices. While scholars of color have emphasized cultural diversity and encouraged treatment models to adapt models of therapy, the integration of cultural factors with the internal working models of self & others remains largely a clinical blind spot.
In Dr, Paul Guillory’s book Emotionally Focused Therapy with African American Couples; Love Heals, he suggests that therapists work most effectively with Couples of Color when they have a conceptual model for cultural matters, including racism, racial identity, race-based events, and racial trauma. Integrating these concepts into the clinical work promote both individual wellness and the love bond with persons of color.
This training will advance everyone’s psychotherapy and EFT training as culture is integrated into the heart of the EFT process. It will help participants develop clinical interventions well beyond the stagnant contextual & cultural humility perspective of addressing culture, but only on the clinical fringes. We will address useful clinical concepts (e.g., talking about culture, internalized racism, cultural stress, cultural identity as internal dynamic processes) and how they can be integrated into clinical interventions. Case studies, vignettes, and video clips of clinical interventions illustrate the work with breakout groups to practice specific clinical interventions.

An Introduction to Ketamine Assisted EFT
Join us online as Kathryn Rheem, Ed.D., LMFT, ICEEFT Trainer introduces the application of Ketamine Assisted EFT
A Conexa East Africa Fundraiser!
As many of you know, psychedelic assisted therapy is our field's leading edge. Many, many models of therapy are integrating psychedelic assisted therapy with great benefits. While not technically a psychedelic, Ketamine -- a dissociative anesthetic with psychedelic features -- is a legal and safe drug used around the world every day. It is on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of the 6 drugs needed in every medical clinic which is just one indicator of its safety! Ketamine for mental health is considered an "off label" use. Still legal. Totally safe. Very interesting as an assist for therapists like us!
Ketamine is called the "benevolent disruptor" for how it helps our nervous systems get breaks (dissociate) from our regular, typical, habitual defenses. In these breaks from our regular defenses, new possibilities emerge which Ketamine assisted therapy amplifies. Ketamine provides an assist for us clinicians and for our clients who have often worked so hard in therapy (sometimes for years) to befriend their inner-worlds.
Kathryn is a Certified EFT trainer, supervisor & therapist. She has trained hundreds of mental health clinicians in EFT nationally and internationally. She has been a student of EFT since 2002, has been using this empirically-validated approach exclusively in private practice since 2005, and continues to study and learn the model daily.
Kathryn trains and presents EFT regularly at many locations in U.S. including the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium, AAMFT Annual Conference, state divisions of AAMFT, and EFT Summit and has taught EFT in Denmark, Sweden, Holland, and Germany.
She works extensively with couples where one or both partners have endured trauma and has written and presented on the application of EFT with trauma numerous times. In addition to the application of EFT with trauma, Kathryn has a special passion for working with and teaching the Withdrawer Re-engagement process. Kathryn was voted a Top Couples Therapist in Washington, D.C. by the Washingtonian magazine in December 2012.
You can contact Kathryn at kathryn@wbceft.com
Date: Friday, February 23, 2024
Time: 12pm-3pm EST
Location: Virtual, on Zoom,
*Workshop will be recorded and made available by request to attendees for 30 days*
Cost: $60.
**After administrative fees, all proceeds go to Conexa East Africa.
For: All mental health providers
Presenter: Kathryn Rheem, Ed.D., LMFT
Contact Information: Email Angela at angela@wbceft.com with any registration questions.
Over the last two years, Kathryn has received 126 hours of specialized Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) training (from the father of KAP Phil Wolfson, MD, of Ketamine Training Institute, Polaris Insight, Fluence among others) and has been providing Ketamine Assisted EFT for her couples, families and individual clients for the last year now. Her clients report less anxiety and depression, more emotional flexibility, and more ease in finding primary emotions and sharing them among many other positive comments. One of Kathryn's couples said, "Ketamine dissolves my shame and I have more freedom to be myself without my lifelong shame in my way." This person's partner said, "Ketamine brings my partner back to me...I'm so grateful." Ketamine sessions have helped Kathryn's couples get unstuck. Defenses get dissolved temporarily (Ketamine stays alive in our nervous systems for 24 - 48 hours.) which gives us enough time and openness using KAEFT (Ketamine Assisted EFT) to find and work with what was below those defenses!
Join us for this introduction of this revelatory intervention that may change your practice and your client's day-to-day life experience! Powerpoint slides and video of real clients on Ketamine will be used for teaching. Questions are welcome and we will make time for Q+A!
Betrayal Trauma from an EFT Perspective
3 CEUs available
Kelly Bourque, LMFT and Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor
Betrayal Trauma is one of the most difficult presentations. So many unknowns!
How do I know it’s safe to do couples work?
How recent is too recent to see a couple after a discovery?
What about disclosure? How do I do that in the context of EFT?
What’s a stage one attachment injury conversation?
What do I do with a pursuer that keeps asking questions about the betrayal?
What if I’m starting to get suspicious, too (like is the affair actually over)?
Kelly Bourque, LMFT and Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor has developed a video series for the injured partner. This series, “You’re Not Crazy. You’re Not Alone. Betrayal Trauma from a Bonding Science Perspective” has gotten the attention of EFT therapists all over. From this series, Kelly has gained speaking engagements and has started offering workshops for other therapists on how to work with betrayal trauma using EFT. (By the way, Kelly is running a deal right now - you can buy one video series and get 2 to give away to clients!)
In this 3 hour live virtual workshop, you’ll get answers to some of the above questions. Together, we’ll help to make the unclear clear. Betrayal Trauma requires a lot of patience and compassion for both partners. Don’t forget that you need it, too! This is hard (and rewarding) work.

Date: Friday June 3
Time: 9-10am EST
Location: Online via Zoom
As EFT therapists we are continually refining our ability to slow down response time to enable us to create new neuropathways that lead to intimacy rather than disconnection. It is hard work.
Mindfulness and meditation techniques can be taught and utilized in session as a means to slow down and press pause. With practice, these tools allow clients to enter purely into present moment experience. Mindfulness can also be profoundly helpful in overcoming sexual distress and enhancing a sexual connection.
Clients can use skills learned in sessions at home both individually and in partnership. Come and learn how you can integrate mindfulness and meditation into couples' work, and sex therapy.

Creating Healing Connection Within: Part 2
Date: Friday May 6th
Time: 9-10am EST
Location: Online via Zoom
Back by popular demand: Phyllis is offering a part 2 to her talk on EFiT and Infertility: Creating Healing Connection Within. Part 1 was offered on April 1 and those in attendance expressed interest in hearing more. Phyllis has graciously agreed to continue her discussion and teaching on EFiT and Infertility. If you were not able to attend part 1, you are welcome to join us!
There are so many ways infertility challenges individuals and couples. Among these may be long held or newly formed beliefs of self (View of Self or Other); old trauma that gets triggered from invasive procedures; the daily challenges of being a patient; the impact on sex, work, sense of self, finances, relationships, and even concerns for not yet conceived children around bonding, disclosure and more.
Phyllis Fortunato, M.Ed., LPC will be discussing ways to utilize the EFiT model when working with clients undergoing infertility treatment or family building decisions. Phyllis will focus on working with individuals (partnered or not) with EFiT assisting the client to identify their inner-tango and resource parts of self.
Phyllis Fortunato is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 25 years of experience seeing individuals and couples in Virginia. She began her private practice, along with her family building niche, 21 years ago after personally experiencing a lack of infertility awareness and resources in the mental health community. Since then she regularly assists individuals and couples in all aspects of infertility. She also speaks on topics such as the emotional aspects of infertility, secondary infertility and third party family building. She has appeared as an expert guest on the televised UK Morning Show, isFounder and Host of the online podcast, The Fertility Forum and offers workshops and support groups for a variety of related topics (now virtually).
